YOU: This is the perfect class if you have taken music lessons, are a music enthusiast, dabbling composer or performer, and want to solidify and challenge your theory, sight reading, your ear training, creativity, and apply your music knowledge. This also serves as a preparation class for the AP Music exam.

WHAT: This week long day camp teaches and practice Sight Reading, Theory, Dictation, Improvisation, and Harmony. All instrumentalists and vocalists are invited to apply; all will be expected to sing and use a keyboard at their level.

WHEN: June 25-30. Usually the first morning is for placement, so arrivals may be staggered, but the rest of the week is 9am-4pm. On Saturday, the students will present some of their work in an award ceremony and reception for parents and friends.

WHERE: The location is in Palo Alto, right off of the 101 at University Avenue. Housing is not provided.

HOW MUCH: Tuition is $400 for the week, and 50% off for a second sibling or referral

WHO: Mariah Wilson, from Palo Alto, is a performer and music teacher at both secondary and collegiate levels. She has taught these courses for Preparatory schools, ages 8-18 in Boston (New England Conservatory Prep and Handel & Haydn Prep School), at Tanglewood Music Festival, as well as the advanced versions of these courses for music majors at both Boston University and Brigham Young University. She herself has received honors for Counterpoint, Musicianship, and Keyboard Harmony at the European American Musical Alliance in Paris. She has a K-12 Teaching Certificate in Music, a Bachelor’s degree in Piano Performance with Honors, a Masters in Conducting from Brigham Young University, and is currently pursuing her Doctorate of Musical Arts in Conducting at Boston University. What does a normal day look like?
The instruction and games are split up into sessions throughout the camp: 1. online ear training practice, 2. theory worksheets, 3. listening dictation stations, 3. ear training skills, 4. keyboard exercises, 5. sight reading games, 6. dictation exercises, 7. harmony, 8. Improvisation break-out sessions, and 9. theory instruction.

Do I need to bring my instrument? 
Yes. You will need your instrument for the sight reading and improvisation classes.

What time will my classes be?
Tuesday – Friday of camp will be 9am – 3pm. Sometimes students of different levels are asked to come early or later if they need individual help in specific courses. If you have other specific time constraints, there is a place on the application form to mark those, and we will do our best to accommodate you.

Will lunch be provided? 
Every day, snacks will be provided, but students are asked to bring their own sack lunches or buy food before coming to class. Some nearby restaurants are: San Francisco Soup Company, Three Brother’s Tacos, Pluto’s, Oren’s Hummus Shop, Palo Alto Creamery, and LYFE Kitchen.

What do I need to bring to camp?
Your instrument, a water bottle, and your lunch. We will provide staff paper and pencils, theory worksheets, individual white boards with music staves, dry erase markers, and snacks.
